When a regular-size SUV can’t contain your family, there’s the 2021 Ford Expedition Max. And Ford’s extra-big three-row SUV does much more than maximize cargo space, delivering rugged adventure and plush interior comfort.
How much bigger is the Ford Expedition Max?
Compared to the regular-wheelbase Expedition, the Expedition Max is a longer SUV. From inside, you’ll notice the biggest difference in the Expedition Max’s cargo hold, which offers 34.3 cubic feet for your family’s carry-on items. Regular models stop at 19.3 cubic feet of cargo space.
Fold down both rear seats for up to 121.5 cubic feet of total cargo space in your Expedition Max (versus 104.6 cubes of total cargo space in regular Expedition models).
The total length of an Expedition Max SUV is 221.9 inches, 11.9 inches longer than regular-size models. The wheelbase is 131.6 inches (versus 122.5 inches in regular models).
What’s new for the 2021 Ford Expedition Max?
For 2021, the Ford Co-Pilot360 Assist package is now optional for the entry-level XLT Max model. It adds adaptive cruise control and navigation to an already-robust list of standard safety aids. (Every Expedition Max already comes with blind-spot monitoring, lane-keeping assist, and forward collision mitigation with automatic emergency braking.)
Why choose the 2021 Ford Expedition Max?
The Expedition Max is much more than its roomy cabin and cargo hold. Get one of these truck-based, three-row SUVs because you’re in need of a vehicle that’s as rugged as it is family-friendly.
Every Expedition Max trim model delivers a smooth, capable ride with its 3.5-liter turbocharged V6 engine. It sends 375 horsepower and 470 pound-feet of torque to the rear wheels via a 10-speed automatic transmission. In top-tier Platinum models, engine output increases to 400 horses or 480 pound-feet.
You can add four-wheel drive to any Expedition Max, making it far less likely that you’ll get stuck in the mud. Options also include a Heavy-Duty Trailer Tow package, which helps you tow max loads of up to 9,000 pounds. The FX4 Off-Road package is great for adventures, adding all-terrain tires, off-road-specific suspension, an electronic limited-slip differential, and more.
And each Expedition Max cabin is as comfortable as it is roomy. The standard features roster includes tri-zone automatic climate control and plush, supportive seats. Climb the trim levels for luxuries like leather upholstery, heated seats, and a hands-free liftgate.
