Besides the usual modern features (like smartphone-friendly infotainment and accident aversion technology), the 2022 Ford F-150 Lightning is set to include some very cutting-edge items.
First off, there’s the hands-free Bluecruise system. It gives you the ability to cruise down pre-mapped divided highways without even a finger on the steering wheel. The system keeps track of your eye movements, however, and disengages when it senses that you’re not paying attention to the road, creating a safe hands-free experience.
Inside the cabin, the available Interior Work Surface provides a comfortable space for you to use your laptop or eat lunch.
Then there’s the Pro Power Onboard station. It supplies up to 9.6 kW of power to outlets in the cabin, bed, and Mega Power Frunk (front truck, located where the engine bay of a gas-powered truck would be).
The Mega Power Frunk is very tailgate friendly, with four 120-volt outlets and two USB ports to power tools, camping gear, or even a television. It can carry up to 400 pounds of gear. There’s even a drain in the floor, which allows you to transform the frunk into an ice chest for party supplies and fishing trips.
With the Tailgate Work Surface, you can set up a handy workspace on the F-150 Lightning’s tailgate. The Work Surface is made of durable composite material, making it a reasonable place to cut materials and operate power tools. It also features rulers, a cup holder, a slot for your smartphone, and small item storage. Clamp pockets and tailgate tie-downs create a tidy, safe space for working.
Do you work before the sun comes up or after it sets? The Enhanced Zone Lighting lights up the space 360 degrees around the F-150 Lightning. The lighting is also divided into zones, so you can use your FordPass app to turn them on and off as needed.
And you’ll get no shortage of trailer towing assistance from your F-150 Lightning. Use the Pro Trailer Backup Assist feature for help backing a trailer in the right direction. The Trailer Reverse Guidance system adds cameras in the side mirrors and extra visual guidance in the central screen display. The Pro Trailer Hitch Assist helps you — you guessed it — line the truck hitch up to the trailer. And the Smart Hitch helps you distribute trailer weight evenly for a safer towing experience.
In the truck bed, you can add onboard scales to help ensure a safe hauling performance.
Finally, Ford now lets you update your infotainment system via over-the-air Power-Ups. That means you can get all the latest software updates without returning to the dealership!
